Hariom Parents,
Here is the summary of the last two classes
Oct 4th 2019
We started our session with Likhitha japa, Starting prayers + Some shloka recitation and then attendance. We continued our discussion in the class on Mahabharatha. We covered the topic of the birth of Kuru princess, their skill learning from Guru Dronacharya, The Pandava Kaurava conflict at young age, Their visit to Lac palace and discussed until the Draupadi Swayamvara . This time we did more a quiz combined with game like hangman to engage the class. Children participated actively in the interactive session .
We also chanted verses 1 and 2 of Geeta chapter 1, by following our swamiji on the Geeta chanting video that was telecast in the classroom. We have requested them to practice these so they could memorize the above verses. Request your guidance on this to make them practice on their own once or twice. We will also continue our joint practice in the class as well.

Happy to see the children come to the class on time and in Indian attire (as advised by Harinee ji in the last class). We started the class with Likhitha Japa (Shree Rama jayam) Starting prayers, reciting a few shlokas and attendance. We continued the review of Mahabharata – Adiparva and Sabhaparva. The discussion was largely around Coronation of King Yudhistara (Indraprastha)- the Rajasuya ceremony and finally the Gama of Dice in the assembly hall at Hastinapur. This is still a continued review of the portion the children learnt in Grade 5 and doing a bit more in detail for the benefit of new students. We also discussed a few lessons learned or teachings from these incidents / events. It was exciting to see the knowledge that the children have either retained from Grade 5 session and / or from your teachings and discussions at home.
We concluded the session with our closing prayers. This balavihar session was short as we had the House innagural program and thus the class dispersed to assembly hall @ 745pm.
We will wind up the review in the next session and get started with the Virata Parva which is the core curriculum for Grade 6.
Happy Deepavali to all (in advance)
As you celebrate each of the festival i would suggest to discuss the significance of the festival at home as well (If you are not already doing that). Learning happens in home as well and many a times they learn by seeing what happens. We will discuss the same in the class as well.
Please note:
If you missed the update from the last class please read the details on the Parents portal
Also we have started a whatsapp group for the Grade 6 Friday session parents only.
Please join the whatsapp group using this url: https://chat.whatsapp.com/Bf6km6U4dlZ6DUjz8KyfoQ
We request the parents to buy the Mahabharata Part 1 and Part 2 Children handbook and have the children bring those books along to the classroom. Many of them may have the part 1 from last year in that case request you to buy just the part 2 handbook. This is available in the ashram book store. We follow this book for the core content and will discuss the details in the class. It also helps the children do some self-reading on their own as well. So appreciate if you can buy this book.
Regards to all
Shankar , Harinee, and Sasi ji
