Hari Om Parents, 

This past month we learnt all about Shiva. 

God of the month: Shiva

Opening Prayers 

Chanting Om 3 tims
Om Sahanavavatu 
Om Shri Ganeshaya Namah, Om Shri Saraswatyai Namah, Om Satgurubyo Namah

Hari Om Game

We played the Hari Om game, where kids to the opposite of what I do. 
I say Hari Om softly, children say Hari Om loudly.
I say Hari Om Loudly, children say it softly.

All kids now got it all right. Opposite game is always lots of FUN.
                                           
Shiva Yoga
All kids had a lot of fun doing the normal yoga along with Shiva Nrithya dance steps yoga.
  1. We stretched our hands above our head, our legs hip width apart and rotated our arms and shoulders, hips and twisted.
  2. Then we did Shiva Yoga - We acted as we were all Shiva as Nataraj and did the Nataraj pose – First on the left side and then on the right side
  3. Shiva is known for his Tapasya. So we all did tapas in the tree pose

Who is Shiva?
Last whole month we were talking about Shiva. Looking at the picture of Shiva we saw so many different things,
  • He has the river ganga flowing from his head
  • He has a crescent moon sitting on his head
  • A third eye on his forehead
  • He has a snake on his neck
  • And his throat is blue
  • He wear rudaskha beads on his neck, hands and hair
  • He has vibhuti everywhere

Activity
  • Concentration Game - We have to concentrate and then Count the number of stones falling in the tin box.  Kids closed the eyes and counted in mind. Then we counted the beads in Sanskrit to the number kids will ask for. 
  • How to be Shiva for a day? – Each kid pretended they were Shiva for the day. Each child's throat was painted BLUE like Shiva, they got a GOOGLY eye on their forehead and also had VIBUTI on their hands so they can see and smell like SHIVA.

Story and crafts: 

We covered many stories and related craft 
  1. How Shiva got his throat blue and kids made a damaru
  2.

We practiced all our Slokas we learnt 
  1. Vakratunda Mahahkaya
  2. Saraswati Namastubhyam
  3. Karagre Vasathe Lakshmi
  4. Gurur brama gurur Vishnu
  5. Buddhir balam
  6. Bramharpanam
  7. Shubham Karoti


Bhajans:

We are following all Bhajans in the Shishu Vihar book and covered a lot of Bhajans about Shiva
  1. Dum Dum Dum Dum Dumaroo
  2. Shiva is his name, Bol
  3. If you want to dance like Shiva
  4. Madhur manohar saare swar
 
Geeta Chanting:

We chanted the SIX sthotras from Chapter 1 of the Bhagavad Gita.

This past month we learnt all about Krishna. 
God of the month: Krishna

Opening Prayers

Krishna Yoga
All kids had a lot of fun doing the normal yoga along with Krishna dance steps yoga.
  1. We stretched our hands above our head, our legs hip width apart and rotated our arms and shoulders.
  2. Then we did Krishna Yoga - We acted as we were all Krishna playing Murali/ Flute pose with hands stretched and legs crossed and all pretended to be Krishna dancing on Kaliya
4.     We also did the Cobra pose by sleeping on our tummy and raising our heads like a COBRA… hissss 
5.     We then all churned butter with our moms and dads. We sat down with our legs intertwined with our parents and pulled back and then pushed back like we churned butter.

Who is Krishna?
Last whole month we were talking about Krishna. He is the god with the flute in his hand. Who wears Peacock feather on his head. His mother's name was Janaki/Yashoda and his father's name was Vasudev /Nandan. He is One of the avatars of Lord Vishnu.  

We talked about how Krishna is our friend. And Krishna has LOT of names – because Krishan does lot of things. We saw Krishna doing many things in pictures. Some of the names of Krishna are Yashodha Nandan Krishna, Makkhan chor Krishna, Kaliya mardhan Krishna, Govardhan Giri Krishna, Bansi Bajaiya Krishna, Geetacharya Krishna.

For each name, we learnt so many stories about Krishna like how Krishna played with his flute all the time, how he carried the Govardhan giri to save the people of Brindavan from Indra's wrath, how Krishna saved the yamunawasi from Kaliya the snake.

Activity

  • Govardhan Giri Game – Each kid pretended they were Krishna for the day. We spread a bedsheet over all the kids heads and they all pretended that they were carrying the mountain and saving the Brindavan people from Indra's torrential rain
  • Kaliya Mardhan Game – We got in many pillow, cushions etc from home and we pretended that it was the heads of Kaliya. Then we put the Tillana Kaliya Mardhan song and danced on all the pillows like Krishna danced on Kaliya.
  • Flute game – We cut straws into many different sizes and then taped them together to make a flute like Krishna's. Kids had a lot of fun blowing into it.

  4. Mother Holdra's runway cat

Yoga
All kids had a lot of fun doing the Hanuman Yoga.
  1. We pretended that we were all Hanuman crossing the mighty ocean to get to Lanka. We stretched our hands above our head, our legs hip width apart and rotated our arms and shoulders.
  2. We then kneeled like Hanuman (one knee on the floor and other foot down) and pretended to carry the mountain and fly to save Lakshmana. We sang "Jai Bajaranga Bali, off he goes"
  3. We twisted and turned to the Hokey Pokey Hanuman Song.
Who Is Hanuman?
Today, we talked about Hanuman. He is the god with the monkey face. His mother's name is Anjani and his father's name is Kesari. He is Vayu Putra. He carries a gada.

Hanuman is so strong and brave and always doing Rama's work. Hanuman always did what Shri Rama loved. Rama was sad when he lost mother Sita, so Hanuman went to go find her because Hanuman always did what Shri Rama loved. When Lakshman got sick, Hanuman went quickly to get the medicine because Hanuman always did what Shri Rama loved.
Hanuman LOVES Lord Rama. Hanuman LOVES Sita Mata.

Activity - We are all Messengers of Shri Ram
  • Concentration Game - "To deliver a message, we have to concentrate and then remember the message" Kids repeated all the action I did also did it in the same order. WHAT FUN!! 
  • Plane Game - We threw paper planes at each other with the messages Jai Shri Ram, Hari Om.  It was very enjoyable seeing kids throw paper planes in the classroom.

Story and Craft
STORY: Hanuman is a great messenger  
Hanuman jumps high high high into Lanka in the hopes of meeting Sita mata. Finally, he sees Sita mata in a garden called Ashoka Vanam.
He sings the song "Jaya Siya Rama, Jaya Jaya Siya Rama". Sita is so glad to hear the name of Rama.
Hanuman gives her Rama's ring and delivers the message that he is coming to rescue her.

Sita mata is so happy that Hanuman is such a good messenger.

Hariom Parents,

We started our class with the opening prayers

  1. Three Oms
  2. Om Sahanavavatu

HARI OM GAME
This week since we were learning all about Hanuman – we played the "Jai Shree Ram" game.
I would say "Jai Shree Ram" softly and kids would yell it loudly!
I would say "Jai Shree Ram" loudly and kids would say it softly like a whisper…………..

YOGA
We stretched and pulled and bent and arched and shook and rocked. We did Hanuman Yoga this week.
  1. We pretended we were all Hanuman crossing the ocean to go to Lanka. We rocked back and Forth and sang a song.
  2. We then pretended to carry the mountain to save Lakshmana. Another song.
  3. We did the Shree Ram Jai Ram while stretching and jumping and turning song

ALL ABOUT HANUMAN
We talked about who Hanuman is. He is the god with the monkey face. He carried a HUGE mountain to save Lakshmana and carries a gada in the other hand. He is  Ramdhoot and carries Shree Ram and Sita mata in his heart.

ACTIVITY
We talked about how Hanuman tried to eat the SUN!

All moms and dads pretended that orange play-doh was sun and kids had to jump to catch it. We had lot of fun and laughs as all kids caught the SUN multiple times

We practiced our Slokas we learnt so far

STORY AND CRAFT
We did the story of the crow and how it put pebbles into the jar and got water out. We then did crow craft

GEETA CHANTING
Practiced the first three stotras and started on the fourth stothra.

LAST SONG
We ended it by singing the HARI OM – FREEZE song.

No class next week. HAPPY THANKSGIVING.
