Hari Om! Parents,
We chanted the beginning prayers after the children did some likhita japa.
We recapped last week’s lesson on Cause and Effect and ‘I am the author of my life’.
We then went on to our curriculum for this week which was,
‘You too can’:
Learned, if we decide to groom ourselves we can achieve our goal.
Discussed, each one of us can raise ourselves to the level of our Purjya Gurudev. We have to drop our negative tendencies and come out of our comfort level.
Discussed Pujya Gurudev’s life, From Sri Balan to Sri Chinmayannda.
Talked about taking charge of our life and make changes to it right now.
The 2nd part of our curriculum was on our Scriptures which we discussed briefly. Talked about
1. Vedas or Shruti- Thy are not the opinion of one individual. It is the science of living itself.
Vedas are ‘Apaurusheya-not of human origin. They were revealed to the Rishis in their deep seat of meditation.
Discussed about Sri Veda Vyasa’s life and his eternal contribution of compiling the Vedas into 4, viz, Rig Veda, Sama Veda, Yajur Veda and Atharvana Veda.
Discussed Sri Adi Shankara’s life and his contribution to our rich cultural heritage.
2. Smritis, as knowledge which was taught and spoken from memory, eg, Bhagavad Gita.
3. Itihasa, or historic events which took place long ago, like Ramayana and the Mahabharata.
The children have been sorted into the 4 houses. Some of them were made captians for their house. They supervised an activity at the temple which was to assemble plastic cutlery in paper napkins for TASK.
The children enjoyed the activity.
On Sunday some of the children came to the ashram to start writing the script for our play in December.
We showed them an episode from Upansishad Ganga, The Student life or the Brahmacharya ashrama. This episode shows the life a small boy Satyakama who lived with his mother and his great quest for knowledge.
Thank you parents for bringing the children for the extra class. Hopefully more children can attend next time.
Our next BV session is on October 25th.
Pranams,
Purnima and Nirmala
