Hari Om Parents,
Heres' the summary of our last Sunday's class.
We commenced our class with Om chanting and opening prayer of Sahanavavtu as always, after which we recited Govinda Damodara Stotram. We started Krishna Ashtakam and covered the first 2 slokas.
We covered 2 Krishna's stories. The first one was about the death of demon Aghasura who was the younger brother of Putana and Bakasura and was waiting to avenge their deaths.
He disguised himself as a huge, long Python and waited in the forest with his mouth wide open to devour Krishna and his friends, the Gopas. Though the Gopas were unsure of the threat lying ahead of them, they were more than confident that their dear friend, Krishna would save them from any kind of danger lurking around and walked right into the open mouth of the monstrous snake. Bhagawan knows that the Python was indeed a demon and kills it by choking from inside his throat before the Gopas were consumed by it and saves them.
The second story is about Lord Brahma who with arrogance tries to test the divinity of Lord Krishna. Once when Krishna and all the Gopas go to the banks of river Yamuna with their cattle, the claves get strayed away. Lord Brahma with mischief hides all the calves in mountain cave. Bhagawan looks high and low in the forest to trace them but to no avail. He returns to tell the same to the Gopas, and to his astonishment they go missing too. It doesn't take long for the lord of the universe to realize that Brahma ji is playing a trick on him and decides to teach him a lesson. He multiplies himself and assumes the exact forms of the Gopas and the Claves and they all return to their homes. No one suspects a thing and and the days pass for almost an year. Brahma ji after seeing the power of Lord Krishna who manifested himself in all those forms realizes the lord's greatness and bows down to him.
We had one of the kids read another story of a turtle and 2 cranes which teaches us the moral of not to Show Off with arrogance.
The eighth teacher from My 24 teachers book this week was the Pigeon. We talked about a story of family of Pigeons who were living happily on a tree. One fine day a hunter comes and traps the baby pigeons while the parents go out for food. Once they return they could not bear the sight of their babies being trapped and they too fall into it and the whole family gets killed. What you learn from this is, troubles do come in life, but face them with courage and try to find a proper solution, instead, if you are too attached to things you will not make the right judgement.
The kids had fun doing an activity of word hunt. They solved a puzzle and discovered the secret message. The handout is with them if you wish to see.
We concluded our class by chanting the 11th, 12th and 13th verses from Bhagavad Gita following Swami Ji's video.
A small request to please have your kids come on time,12:45. It kind of disrupts the class when they walk in late.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me or Roopa at roopab77@yahoo.com.
We will see the kids next Sunday, Dec 22nd.
Thank you,
Purna and Roopa.
