Hari Om Parents,

We thank all parents of our class who are very cooperative and helping their wards as per the needs. With Almighty, our Poojya Gurudev and our dear Swamiji's blessings today's  session saw a smooth sail. We hope for betterment in every way in the virtual classroom set up until we meet in person.
We strongly believe "this too shall pass"
At His Service.

3rd May 2020 / 9:15AM
Shlokas
We started with regular opening prayers.
We learned the 7th verse of Mahisasura mardhni sthothram (the learned verse was chanted  by two kids we random picked, at a time- they all did a great job, nice pronunciation and in the correct tune)

India the Sacred land- our lesson.

Today's topic was the Indian Temples- the speed-breakers of our lives.

*Monuments representing countries

*Monuments are reminders that inspire generations to live up to the ideas set by our ancestors.

*Temples serve as holy halls of retreat for the masses.

*As a speed breakers for lives- source of inspiration and solace during times of depression and disappointment.
*Constructing temple is considered as a sacred activity, as any other community service- from ancient times.
Architecture of a temple
*Alayam- atma for layam, the universal soul.
*Ego is crushed in front of the supreme spirit., symbolically represented by the idol installed.
*Naagara (the north Indian- beehive shaped tower) and Dravidian (the south Indian pyramid shaped tower)

5 Distinctive portions of the temple- 1. Garbhaguham 2. The Vimaanam 3. Ardhamantapam 4. Prakaaram and 5.Gopuram.
Vimana attracts holy powers from the cosmos. Gopuram considered as the gross body of the deity- odd number stories. 3 (awake, dream, deepsleep) 5 (senses, experience of the outer world) 7 (mind+intellect+5 senses) 9 (7+ego+heart)
The garbhagruha (the dark and un-decorated walls) the sanctum reflects the womb house.

Our Temples
Our household pooja place, uder the tree, drawn on sidewalls and also architectural marvels.
Hindus, Jains, Buddhist temples: Mosques and churches for Islamic and Christians, respective place of worship so is Agiyaris for Pharsis and Synagogues for jews.
Temples of 5 elements- The panchabhootha sthalam.
The 5 elements make up the whole cosmos or the Lords' expressions. We worship the elements as Lord is all pervading.
1. Formless space at Chidambaram/ Thillaisthanam/Thillaivanam- worship as  space as a supreme being. He is the Aananda Thandava posture with the raised left foot and crushing down the ego/abasmargam with the right foot with abhaya hasta with the right palm. He's dancing in the Golden hall of consciousness (The ponnambalam or the chitsabha/kanakasabhai. The formless form is the Chidambara rahasyam (chit- consciousness, amber-space and rahasyam the secret)The temple opens for the darisanam -a garland is found handing in space. The temple lingam is Akasa Lingam- Chidambaram Natarajar and Sivagami ammai.

2. A flickering lamp in the Kalahasthi  shows the play of Wind/Vayu/Pavan- emphasizing the worship of Lord as AIR. The movement of air inside the sanctum sanctorum never puts off the deepajyothi /lamp near the lingam- you might see the flicker as if blown by moving air. This is a self manifested lingam. Kalahasteeswara lingam and Gnana pasunambigai ammai.

3. The lamp at Thiruvannamalai is worshipped as fire. The lord taking the fire form which has no beginning or end. The entire mountain is believed that the Lord is within  ad shows darsan at the time of karthikai festival in the form of annamalai deepam. Arunachaleswara lingam and Unnamulaiammai.

4. The water spring in the innermost sanctum of the Thiruvanaikkavil temple near Trichy is the worship of water as the lord. Underneath the linga, Jalagandeswarar/Jambugeswarar - (Agilandeswari is matha parvathy)all the time water keeps flowing and is also trickled over the lingam.

5. The suyambhu lingam in the sand of Kanchipuram signifies the deities association with the earth- Prithvilingam. The temple has huge rajagopuram and a huge outer prakaaram. Lingam made of sand by matha parvathy. It was the godesses sakthi that stopped the water flow from engulfing the lingam. This lingam has no abhisegum.
