9/27 Class Update

Opening prayers: Shree Ganeshaya Namaha

We started the class with observing 'quiet time' for 2-3 minutes. Surprisingly, the kids kept absolutely quiet for the entire time! :)

For attendance, we had the students say 'My name is' in Sanskrit and their name. eg "mama naama Sanjay". They found it interesting and we marked their attendance right away. 17 kids were present today.

We played a 7 minute documentary, presenting evidence in support of Ramyana being Itihaasa (meaning: Thus it happened) rather than a story or mythology.

We had a healthy debate after that and discussed about the evidences and the slight variations among the different versions of Ramayana (Ramayana rewritten by various authors after Valmiki).

But we all agreed that, essentially the key events are all the same and the supporting evidences, even the recent discovery of Adam's bridge  lead us to believe more strongly that, Ramyana really happened.

They also had questions about how the life span was so long in those times.

Quote of the Day

Plan out your work, then work out your plan. The former without the latter is a sheer
waste. The latter without the former is mere unproductive confusion.

Each student gave their interpretation of the quote or an example of how they plan and work it out.  One student told he packed cookies so he could eat them before his cross country at school because he had to run long. Another student told they had to design their Engineering project before actually building it. They gave examples for the converse too of how one of them forgot to take the sneakers when going for a trip, which needed a change from formal shoes for the event to sneakers later for Hershey park visit.   They understood how even for daily activities, they need to plan. We prompted them to keep a mental checklist of what they need to do before going to school or an event so they do not leave something behind and cause confusion.

Saraswati Puja

Today's class was a short class. The kids got to perform the Saraswati Puja along with 200+ kids in the main hall. They chanted the 108 naamas of  Goddess Saraswati offering akshatha to the Goddess Sarwathi picture given to each kid.
