Week 5:
Hari Om,
We had a Short class today due to house inauguration. Thanks to all our mentors/captains from our class, it was a fun filled start. The theme of this year will be "Daanam". All activities will circle around this.
Shlokas/ Gita Chanting:
1. Sahanavavatu followed by "Om Shree Ganeshaya namaha, Om Shree Saraswatai namaha, Om shree Sadgurubhyo namaha"
2. Gita Dhyana Shloka – revision of 1 to 4, new verse 5
3. Gita chanting Verses – 1 and 2
This year we will be learning to chant Chapter 1 of Gita. Gita chanting yagna is on March 28th 2020. Below is the link to instruction video on chanting by our Swamiji.
Lesson:
We discussed about series of events that occurred in 18 days of Mahabharata war.
Day 1: Bhishma is the commander in chief of Kaurava army. Dhrishtadyumna is the commander in chief of Pandava army.
Day 10: Bhishma is brought down and lays on bed of arrows.
Day 11: Drona is appointed as commander in chief of Kaurava army. Karna enters the battle field.
Day 13: Abhimanyu is killed
Day 14: Jayadrata and Ghatotkacha are killed
Day 15: Drona is killed
Day 16: Karna is appointed as commander in chief.
Day 17: Duhsasana is killed. Salya (the king) charioteer of Karna, keeps demoralizing his strength. Arjuna kills Karna
Day 18: Salya becomes the commander in Chief. He is killed by Yudhishtira. Shakuni gets killed. Duryodhana's thighs broken by Bhima and is wounded to death.
Narration of Bhagavad Gita to Dhritarashtra: Gita was told to Dhritarashtra after 10 days of war. He was in disbelief when Bhisma was brought down and wanted to know the happenings at the war. Dhritarashtra sent a demoralizing message to Arjuna before the war via Sanjaya. Arjuna was disturbed after listening to the message but with a calm mind came to the battle field. In the battle field seeing the Kaurava army he was disturbed again.
We briefly talked about Arjuna's nervous breakdown. We talked about how we could relate the state of Arjuna to the present world.
