Parents' Meeting
We started the class with a 10 minute meeting with the parents.

Here are some important highlights from the meeting for the benefit of the parents who were unable to attend.

  1. Please make sure that the children are on time for the class. They are expected to be in class by 6:55 pm in order for us to start at 7:00 pm sharp.
  2. The book that they need to purchase is Ramayana by C Rajagopalachari. Please check at the bookstore otherwise it's available on Amazon.
  3. Later part of the year, we will follow the book 'Key to Success' based on Vibheeshana Gita.
  4. Hope everyone is receiving the regular email updates.
  5. Please make sure that the children have taken their bathroom and water breaks before class. When they take such breaks during the class it disturbs the pace of the class and the children miss out on important parts of the lessons.
  6. It is advisable that they don't bring their cell phones to class but if they have to, then cell phones should be silenced and kept face down on the window sill at the start of the and collected after the class.
  7. We recommend that one adult responsible for your child should be present in the premises when the child is in the Ashram. This is a safety requirement. Please avoid drop offs.
  8. Some important dates to remember: our class presentation is on Jan 10th. Our class will run a lemonade stand during the field day on Apr 26th. Annadanam for TASK is on May 10th. We will send you reminders closer to the dates.

Quote of the Day

Do not put the key to your happiness in someone else's pocket.

Almost all students gave their interpretation of the quote or an example for the quote.  One student thought it meant "You should be happy with what you have, not what others have", another said "Don't let other people control your emotions". "Do not rely on others for your happiness", "Your Happiness comes from within you", "We should not let other people dictate your actions" were the different other interpretations.
Many had different scenarios form their life that they could relate this quote to. Most of them were around some friend wanting to be very close even if they do not like or not of the same frequency match ;). We told them that while it was true that their friend was putting their key in their pocket, they  could  be more inclusive and try that (since they may feel the same if they are left out by someone else).
We concluded the discussion with the thought that "Happiness comes from within you and not in something or some one or when you reach some target.

House Inauguration
Today's class was a short class. The kids got to attend the House inauguration at the main hall. 7th grade belongs to 'Bhajrangi Bolts' and represented by yellow color. The other three houses are Durga's Dare Devils, Arjuna's Arrows and Krishna's Cowboys. The house activity they did was to roll plastic cutleries in paper napkins. The maximum number (the faulty ones were not counted) was rolled by Durga's Dare Devils and they secured the maximum points.
