Following is summary of Balavihar session on Oct 27, 2019
- We tarted the class with Meditation (2 mins), Guru Stotram and continue to learn – Ajam Nirvikalpam
- We learnt the story of Kunti and Birth of Karna
- Kunti was the biological daughter of Shurasena, a Yadava chief. Her birth name was Pritha. Kunti was the sister of Vasudeva, the father of Krishna and shared a close relationship with Krishna. Her father gave Kunti to his childless cousin Kuntibhoja.
- Out of impetuous curiosity, Kunti invoked the god Surya. Bound by the power of the mantra, Surya begot a child on her, and restored her virginity. To her surprise, Karna was born with his sacred armor on. Out of fear of the public, Kunti abandoned the child, who later became famous as Karna.
- Once Sage Durvasa visited Kuntibhoja. Being extremely pleased by the all comforts, patience, and devotion offered by Kunti, he offered her a mantra that would invoke any god of her choice and he would bless her with children.
- We learnt the Life of Adi Sankarcharya, we covered the 1st part of this in today's session. Following are the highlightes
- Sankara's Birth - Father Sivaguru and Mother Aryamba
- Sankar's fathers death at this early age, Mother Aryamba performing Upkarma at the age of 5
- Sankar's going for Bhikshatanam as part of daily bramhacharya philosophy (olden days) and his composition of Kanakadhara Stotram
- His Prayers to Purna River to change the direction of the river to help her mother (she would only take bath in the river and seeing he struggle due to old age)
- Sankara Becoming a monk (story where Sankara got in the clutches of Crocodile and Mother granting him Sanyasa despite her unwillingness)
- Sankara's Journey in search of Guru, meeting the Guru Govindapada at the banks of Narmada River
- Sankar's visit to Varanasi and accepting first Student Sanandana.
