Dec 8, 2019 - Grade 4 (Sunday PM)

Hari Om Parents,

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanks giving break.
Our class started with the Om chanting and opening prayer of Sahanavavtu as always.
We recited Govinda Damodara Stotram. It would be nice if the kids practiced the same at home. We will start Krishna Ashtakam next week.

We covered the story of the fruit seller from Krishna Krishna everywhere book. It is about a lady who comes to Bhagawan's house with a basket full fo fruits and little Krishna asks her to give her some. The fruit seller likes the little boy with his bewitching eyes and cute smile and lets him have whatever he asked for from her basket. She sees Krishna's baby face light up with delight as he starts to sink in his teeth into the fruit after which she leaves for her home. On the way she suddenly feels her basket getting heavier with each step. Once she reaches home and puts her basket down, she gets a surprise of her life. All the fruits in the basket have been replaced by diamonds and precious gems. The lord did this so He could bless His devotee for her simple love and generosity. Through this story the kids learnt the importance of being Generous and have a Giving attitude.
We also talked about how the elders from the Gokula village decide to move to a place called Vrindavana as they feel that a lot of calamities have befallen their village.
Next, we made a couple of kids read stories of Vatsasura and Bakasura, 2 demons disguised as Calf and Crane respectively.

Our 7th teacher from My 24 teachers book was the SUN. The Sun teaches us to work our full capacity, earn reward and save it; and at the right time give it back to the society, just like the sun's rays evaporate water from the earth; collects water and stores in form of clouds, and at the right time gives it back to the earth in the form of rain.
We engaged the kids with a small activity based on the concept that though Sun is reflected in different pools of water as many and varied, but in reality it is only one. We had each kid try on different hats, like a basket ball cap, a graduation hat, Santa hat and bike helmet. By simply changing hats they temporarily became the respective characters and assumed that role, but in reality they were still themselves.

Towards the end of the class we chanted verses 9 and 10 from Bhagavad Gita following Swamiji's video and also practiced chanting verses 1 through 10 a couple of times.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me or Roopa at roopab77@yahoo.com

We will see the kids next Sunday. Have a great week ahead.

Thank you,
Purna and Roopa.
