Hari Om All,
We began our class with our regular opening prayers and slokams. We then did class introductions. Every student was handed a card in which they wrote their names and their favorite part in the Mahabharata. Most of the students have some knowledge of the main heroes of Mahabharata and were able to identify important events they liked most. We also played a memory game where everyone including teachers had to remember everyone's name. This was a good ice-breaker and everyone had fun.
We reviewed the class rules and reviewed the syllabus for this year. We will be be covering Mahabharata - Part II from now until Jan after which we will cover portions from India - The Sacred Land. Students are encouraged to purchase a copy of Mahabharata For Children - Junior Class Handbook - Part II from the ashram book store. Optionally you may also purchase a copy of Mahabharata by C.Rajagopalachari.
In the next 4 classes we will be reviewing Mahabharata - Part I that was taught last year (Adi Parva, Sabha Parva, Vana Parva and Virata Parva) so that everyone is on par with knowledge of Mahabharata.
We also handed printed copies of Mahalakshma Ashtakam and Slokas to the students. If you did not get it, please collect it in the next class. We will start chanting Bhagavad Gita Chapter 1 from the next class.
