We then went on to our curriculum on Hindu culture:

Hindu culture is a spiritual culture.
This week our discussion was on our Ashramas and Ashrama Dharma.
Hindu scriptures divide our life into 4 stages:
1. Brahmacharya ashrama or student life
2. Grihasta ashrama, or the householder’s life
3. Vanapastha or retired life
4. Sanyasa ashrama, or life of renunciation
As part of Brahmacharya ashrama, which the students are now in,
Discussed Upanayanam ceremony and the Gayatri mantra
Discussed chanting the Gayatri mantra, saves us from our negative tendencies.
Discussed about how we can focus our life right now to gain knowledge both material and spiritual.
Discussed how to cultivate discipline of a student, by making a acrostic puzzle like STUDENT(Sacrifice, Thoughtful, Unique, Dedicated, Energetic, Noble, Tough) to have a glorious future.
As part of Grihasta Ashrama,
Discussed the dependence of the other Ashramas on this one, and it’s greatness.
Discussed Giving and Seva is the main aspect of this Ashrama.
Discussed how by serving, the householder must rise above his selfish interest.
Next Friday our class will be performing the Saraswathi Pooja at the temple.
